Edu is reportedly about to make an 'exceptional' signing, Arsenal fans should be ecstatic - TBR View

Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the signing of Albert Sambi Lokonga.

And Gunners fans should be buzzing if (or perhaps when) they get the deal over the line.

Reports from Belgium and England over the past week suggest Arsenal are all-but set to sign the Anderlecht ace.

“Really imminent”

Fabrizio Romano claimed on the Here We Go Podcast that the transfer is nearly done.

“It’s ‘here we go’ for Albert Sambi Lokonga to Arsenal,” he said. “The agreement is almost done.

“It’s just about some final details to be completed with Anderlecht step-by-step, but they are really ready to complete everything and to sign Lokonga on a five-year contract.

“He wanted to join Arsenal because Atalanta made an important bid.

“They wanted Lokonga but the player said: ‘I want to go to Arsenal’, and so the agreement now is really imminent and he will be a new midfielder for Arsenal.”

Today, Het Laatste Nieuws – via Sport Witness – claimed Arsenal and Anderlecht negotiating for weeks and now the last details of the deal are “smoothed out”.

All parties involved “assume that everything will be fine” and it’s a “matter of dots and commas” to conclude the deal.

And Belgian journalist Sven Claes has today reported that Lokonga is “undergoing medical tests today”.

Based on these reports, surely it won’t be long before Arsenal make an official announcement.

And Lokonga would be an absolutely superb signing.

“Exceptional futures”

He is an energetic, box-to-box midfielder, is great at linking up play and isn’t afraid to weigh in with a strong tackle.

Lokonga is also comfortable in possession, boasting a passing accuracy of 85 per cent last season (Daily Mail).

The 21-year-old has already captained Anderlecht, has made 78 competitive appearances, and has been named in a Belgium matchday squad.

In January, Roberto Martinez named Lokonga as one of several Belgian players with “exceptional” futures.

“We have got young players with exceptional futures,” he told World Soccer.

“Yari Verschaeren has already played for the Red Devils. Jeremy Doku is growing really well.

“Other players are developing quickly because they are playing first-team football.

“The environment is positive for the likes of Marco Kana, Elias Cobbaut, Sambi Lokonga.”
