Edu has made a decision that could make Arsenal millions in near future

Earlier this month, Arsenal allowed Marquinhos to leave the Emirates Stadium on loan.

The 20-year-old Gunners winger sealed a loan switch to Brazilian outfit Fluminense for the entirety of their season.

And earlier this week, Fabrizio Romano provided an update on a clause said to be in the deal which could go on to be very profitable for Arsenal.

The transfer insider claimed on X that the Gunners have included a 50 percent sell-on clause into the loan deal with Fluminense.

If the Brazilians opt to sign Marquinhos, the clause will then reportedly become active, and his successive move would see Arsenal make a profit.

Marquinhos is obviously a top talent, hence Arsenal making the move to sign him back in 2022.

The 20-year-old made his Arsenal debut in a Europa League outing against FC Zurich in September, and was absolutely outstanding in the 2-1 win.

However, Marquinhos hasn’t really kicked on at Arsenal. Last year, he went out on loan to Norwich, but only made 11 appearances.

Last summer, the Gunners sent him out on loan to French club Nantes in the first half of the season, but again, things didn’t quite go to plan.

The Brazilian made just seven appearances for the Ligue 1 club, for a total of 150 minutes of competitive football, leading to Arsenal recalling him.

Arsenal will be hoping to profit from Marquinhos development

Arsenal clearly seem to rate Marquinhos highly, but perhaps he’s not yet ready for European and English football, hence loaning him back out to Brazil.

At the same time, reportedly inserting a 50 percent sell-on clause suggests the Gunners expect him to really kick on and, in a few years, make a big-money move somewhere else.

It’s a masterstroke from Arsenal that could well go on to make them millions in the near future.

Similarly (sorry to mention them in this article but I need to for comparison’s sake), Tottenham negotiated (and then re-negotiated) a similar sell-on clause for Marcus Edwards.

The 25-year-old reportedly has a £50million clause at Sporting Lisbon and is worth around £30million, as per football.london.

If Marquinhos can progress to the point he’s also around that valuation and Fluminense go on to sell him, then Arsenal will be in the money.
