Arsenal have confirmed that they have agreed a new contract for winger Bukayo Saka, and technical director Edu has commented on the signing – telling the club’s website it was a deal that all parties were desperate to complete.
Saka, 18, previously had just 12 months remaining on his previous contract and it had caught the attention of a number of big European sides including Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Liverpool.
The left-footer has excelled in numerous positions for Arsenal, initially playing as a winger but also being used as a left-back and in attacking midfield. He has had a hand in 13 goals during 33 league and cup appearances this term.
Invincibles star and now technical director Edu reacted after Arsenal had confirmed a move to extend Saka’s contract, and underlined the importance of keeping Under-19 England international Saka at the Emirates.
“This is something everyone involved wanted to happen. We are delighted that Bukayo has signed a new long-term contract. He’s making great progress and is one of a number of young players who have developed through our academy. This is so important for us as we move forward as a club.”
TBR’s view – Arsenal must build around Saka and the like
Saka. Gabriel Martinelli. Joe Willock. Eddie Nketiah. William Saliba. The Gunners have an excellent base of young talent and going forward, Arteta must form the new Gunners era around this long list of talent.
Keeping Saka was pivotal, and indeed, keeping him away from the lure of the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United. Getting Saka to sign a new deal is excellent Arsenal business.
