'Edu caught lacking again': Some Arsenal fans are furious about rumour involving 18-cap player

Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter in anger after hearing that Andre Onana is in talks to join Lyon, according to L’Equipe.

What’s the story?

Well, the 25-year-old had seemed certain to join Arsenal at one point.

The 18-cap Cameroon international is currently suspended from football after testing positive for Furosemide – a banned substance.

However, Onana can return to training on September 3rd after the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced his ban from 12 months to nine.

Furthermore, the Ajax glovesman only has one year left on his contract in Amsterdam.

As a result, the Dutch giants are willing to let him leave for just £7m.

That seems too good to be true for Arsenal, but it sounds as if their dawdling has encouraged Lyon to get involved in the pursuit.

The Ligue 1 outfit – who employ another target for Arsenal in Houssem Aouar – are making good progress with Onana, according to L’Equipe.

Could Arsenal and Lyon strike a compromise?

We’re aware that Onana isn’t Lyon’s player, but could Arsenal come to a compromise with the French club, involving a deal for Aouar?

In our view, the Gunners have a greater pull than Lyon.

However, one thing that could happen is Arsenal offer to pull out of the race for Onana, so long as Lyon give them first priority on Aouar.

Liverpool and Tottenham are also said to be hunting to sign Aouar, so there’s certainly incentive for Arsenal to do such a thing.

It must be said that this is merely our suggestion, rather than any fact.

Aouar is up for sale, as Lyon desperately need cash.

In that respect, this would be a wise thing for Edu to offer, in order to put Arsenal in the driving seat for the Frenchman’s signature.

For now, let’s see what the Arsenal fans on Twitter have been saying about L’Equipe‘s news…
