Edouard has all the qualities to be Celtic's new Henrik Larsson
Leigh Griffiths’ goal against Rosenborg took him to fifth on the all-time list of Celtic’s European goalscorers, alongside Willie Wallace and Steve Chalmers.
And the Scottish international has been talking about the prospects of hauling in the man who sits atop that list, Henrik Larsson, with a staggering 35 goals.
Griffiths is humble enough to say he would settle for half of that tally, although Chris Sutton in second place is just three places ahead and looks a more realistic target.
But Odsonne Edouard is now first choice and looks more likely to become Celtic’s answer to Larsson in the modern era.
Larsson was a legend at Celtic Park and while Griffiths has been a reliable goalscorer for the Bhoys, Edouard has the potential to offer the same star quality.
He of course has a long way to go, but his ceiling is higher and the big question is whether he will be able to resist riches elsewhere as the years wear on.
But if he does, he has the ability to get above both Sutton and Griffiths on that European scorers list – especially as Brendan Rodgers will look to build on domestic domination with regular continental progress.
