Edmundson praises fellow Rangers new boy Helander

Rangers defender George Edmundson has praised Filip Helander, and reckons he can learn from the giant Swede.

Englishman Edmundson was in action against Blackburn Rovers in pre-season, and was substituted off by Steven Gerrard in place of the £3.5 million signing from Bologna (BBC Sport).

Big things are expected of the star, with Rangers’ defence arguably the reason Celtic were able to navigate their way to the title in 2018/19.

In the eyes of Edmundson, Helander is already looking like a potential game-changing signing for the Light Blues.

He said of his teammate (Daily Record): “Filip has looked good since he has come in, comfortable on the ball and also aggressive. He is a really nice lad and I am sure he will only get better.

“I can learn from him, but there are loads of players I can learn from here, as well as the gaffer.”

TBR’s view

Helander’s debut was steady and he couldn’t be blamed for Rovers’ equaliser.

Edmundson’s assessment of his teammate will no doubt excite Rangers fans, as he sounds very much like someone who is going to lead by example in 2019/20.

Last term Rangers lacked a real force at the back.

6ft 3in colossus Helander – who has eight caps for his country – could potentially be the man to shore things up, and help 21-year-old Edmundson improve in the process.
