Newcastle United are still waiting on whether or not manager Rafa Benitez will sign a new deal with the club.

The Spaniard has been critical of the club’s unwillingness to spend money in the past and it remains to be seen if he will commit.

The club did land Miguel Almiron for £20 million during January, according to BBC Sport.

That might have been enough to tempt Benitez into signing a fresh deal but nothing has emerged officially just yet.

Almiron’s arrival will probably need to be followed up by several summer additions if the club is to entice Benitez.

Newcastle were recently linked with Edin Dzeko of Roma, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

There are some stumbling blocks, however.

Roma want considerably more than €10 million for their talisman, as per the report, whilst his bumper £69k-a-week (Silly Season) will be a cause for concern.

Dzeko has netted 12 goals and contributed eight assists this season, despite some Roma supporters citing the 33-year-old as having a bad season.

Newcastle’s current talisman is Salomon Rondon. He has 10 goals and five assists, making Dzeko a more fruitful option.

The Magpies are likely to be reluctant to pay the money that West Brom want, but if the ex-Manchester City man is available they should look elsewhere anyway.

Dzeko might be 33 but his career reflects significantly better achievements than Rondon.

Newcastle fans want to see ambition.

The signing of Dzeko would let the Premier League know that Newcastle means business.

It could also go a long way towards determining the future of the worshipped Benitez.
