Eddie Nketiah wants to stay and fight for Arsenal place amid loan exit reports

There have been reports linking the striker with a loan exit but he’s had a strong pre-season.

Arsenal starlet Eddie Nketiah feels he is ready to make an impact in the first team this season, as per the Daily Telegraph.

Earlier this month, the Sun linked Nketiah with a loan exit this summer, with Championship outfit Bristol City in the hunt to take him on for a year, while the striker admitted he almost left in January too.

But Nketiah said: “I have been improving until being at a stage now when I am ready to play regularly. I am trying to show in pre-season that I have developed and I am ready to show what I can do. I am ready to start playing regularly.

“There was talk of [a loan move in January] and it was close to happening but the club decided that I should stay and I tried to finish the season as strongly as possible. We’ll see what happens in the future.”

Arsenal already have two outstanding strikers in the shape of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, so attracting a third to the club to be cover would be a thankless, expensive task.

Having left Danny Welbeck leave for free, it would make sense for the Gunners to keep Nketiah around to learn from the first team and offer cover off the bench.

He should be able to nail down a spot as third choice, getting regular games in the Europa League across what looks set to be another grueling season.
