Eddie Nketiah explained he was “proud” of Leeds United despite exiting the Carabao Cup at home to Stoke City on Tuesday night.

The Whites were beaten on penalties in the second round of the Carabao Cup by their Championship rivals.

Marcelo Bielsa’s team beat Stoke away in the league 3-0 last weekend, but it was a much closer contest in the most recent clash.

Danny Batth and Sam Vokes had put the visitors in front before half-time, but Leeds sparked a comeback in the second-half to take the game to penalties.

Nketiah reacted instinctively to a poor clearance from Jack Butland, as he nutmegged the goalkeeper and tapped into an empty net.

Helder Costa then netted an equaliser at the back-post, but Leeds were eventually beaten on penalties.

Nketiah express his individual delight with another goal under his belt since he joined Leeds and was fairly upbeat despite exiting the cup.

“Disappointing result, but proud of the way the team fought tonight. Always nice to get another goal for Leeds,” Nketiah wrote on his personal Twitter account.

TBR’s View:

Nketiah is turning out to be a brilliant loan signing from Arsenal and he looks such a potent goal threat.

The 20-year-old centre-forward now has three goals in four games across all competitions for Leeds and is the perfect competition for teammate Patrick Bamford in attack.

Nketiah comes alive around the penalty area and his combination with Costa is one fans should want to see more of in the league.

The English striker is taking every chance thrown at him by Bielsa and he’s surely due a first start in the league soon.
