Eddie Howe wants Newcastle to sign players who have a similar mindset to "winner" Bruno Guimaraes
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe believes the Magpies need to be signing players who have a similar mindset to “winner” Bruno Guimaraes.
The Brazilian has been a revelation since making the move to Tyneside from Lyon in the January transfer window.
The all-action midfielder has quickly become a fan favourite at St James’ Park and he scored a brace in Sunday’s dramatic 2-1 win against Leicester.
It was Newcastle’s number 39 who scored the last-gasp winner with a diving header which sent the Toon Army faithful into raptures.
They were Guimaraes’ first goals at St James’ Park and it will be a moment that sticks with the Brazilian international forever.
Ahead of tomorrow night’s clash against Crystal Palace, Howe reserved special praise for the 24-year-old in his pre-match press conference.
Howe said: “It brings a smile to my face seeing his reaction and how much passion he has.
“Saying he wants to be a legend here is him speaking from the heart and with the passion he has inside him. He wants to be the best he can be so we’ll try to help him get there.
“He’s a winner. He’s not selfish. He’s thinking of the team before himself.
“His weekend and his life is going to be judged on whether the team wins or loses – not whether he plays well or not… we need to bring in players of a similar mindset.”
The midfield technician is going to be a key part of PIFs ambitious plans and he’s only going to get better having a full pre-season under his belt.
Newcastle United already have another cult hero in their ranks and if PIF and Howe can sign players who possess similar quality and mindset to Guimaraes, there rise to the top will continue to take an upward trajectory.
