Newcastle United need a new centre-back through the door in this transfer window.
The Magpies have been linked with Marc Guehi for a long time now, but, by the sounds of things, that deal isn’t going to happen.
Newcastle still have a few hours to find an alternative to Guehi, and there have been a few rumours.
Axel Disasi has been linked to Newcastle, but according to Dean Jones, speaking on the Chasing Green Arrows YouTube channel, Eddie Howe really isn’t keen on this deal.
Eddie Howe doesn’t want Axel Disasi
Jones shared what he knows about Newcastle’s transfer plans and the £39m man.
“Newcastle haven’t really had things their way. Marc Guehi, they were priced out of that. They haven’t signed the winger they wanted, they haven’t got rid of Miguel Almiron. They didn’t get the backup goalkeeper,” Jones said.
“If they don’t get Guehi. I don’t think they will sign another centre-back. Eddie Howe was like ‘he’s the one I want, if I can’t get him I don’t want anyone else.’ They were offered Disasi, but he doesn’t rate Disasi at all, he doesn’t want him. Chalobah? Maybe, maybe that gets mooted to Newcastle, but I don’t think they want him.”

Newcastle will struggle to get a defender
It sounds as though it’s Guehi or bust for Newcastle on deadline day, and, unfortunately, it’s hard to see Guehi heading to St James’ Park at this point.
Guehi’s valuation has, so far, proven too high for Newcastle, and with just hours to go in the window, it’s hard to see Crystal Palace bucking and selling yet another star player.
Palace have already sold Joachim Andersen and Michael Olise this summer, and they won’t want to lose another of their most important stars, certainly not this late in the day.
Newcastle need a new centre-back, but they may struggle to get one signed before 11PM.
