'What a professional he is': Eddie Howe in awe of one his Newcastle players, says he's 'top class'

Newcastle United manager, Eddie Howe, has raved about his striker Callum Wilson, after the forward delivered the goods at Burnley.

Wilson has missed a chunk of the season through injury but he has returned recently to boost Newcastle and Howe in their final few games. He was rewarded for another fine performance today with two goals at Burnley, and Wilson will be hoping to come out firing next season.

Newcastle are expected to spend some money in the summer. A striker is said to be top of Howe’s list. But in Wilson, he has a striker who already knows where the net is, and Howe couldn’t speak highly enough of his man after today.

“I’m delighted for him personally. His performances in the last two games have been top class and what a professional he is. We needed him today. He led the line very well,” Howe said of Wilson. (BBC)

Wilson, who signed for around £20m from Bournemouth, will be hoping to lead the line alongside any incoming new striker next term. He won’t want to give up his place, and with a World Cup round the corner, he could even make the England squad.

TBR’s View: Callum Wilson Feels Like A New Signing For Newcastle Anyway

That’s how big a miss he is for this Toon team. Wilson brings something to the XI that nobody else at St James’ Park does at the moment.

Pace, energy, movement, and the ability to take chances make Wilson one of the very best strikers in the league when he’s fit. Certainly, he’s shown enough today to suggest he is that player.

Eddie Howe is rightfully full of praise for his man. If Wilson can stay fit next term, then Newcastle could find themselves scrapping for Europe.
