Eddie Howe has significantly changed Newcastle’s transfer plans after William Osula deal

Including the permanent arrival of Lewis Hall from Chelsea, Newcastle United have strengthened Eddie Howe’s squad with five new signings this summer.

Out of context, that sounds incredibly exciting, but the reality of those deals amid PSR chaos at the end of June hasn’t necessarily made Newcastle’s squad much stronger.

Odysseas Vlachodimos cost an eye-watering fee alongside Nottingham Forest’s purchase of Elliot Anderson, and isn’t necessarily an upgrade on Martin Dubravka.

And whilst signing Lloyd Kelly is a clever deal, and William Osula looked promising on his Newcastle debut, fans would have expected a lot better.

Perhaps if Newcastle can sign Marc Guehi it would go a long way to appease supporters on Tyneside, who will recognise the need for Howe’s side to continually prove their ambition to both Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak.

That being said, iNews have just shared a report stating that Newcastle’s plans for the remainder of the transfer window have just been altered, fairly significantly so.

Previously, it was expected that Newcastle would make two more signings after Osula, perhaps a centre-back and a right-winger.

Eddie Howe now only expecting one more signing at Newcastle this summer

According to the aforementioned report, Howe now only believes that Newcastle will sign one more player after Osula.

The previous plan had been to sign two more players and a young forward – who arrived in the form of the 21-year-old Frenchman.

But now, amid Newcastle’s continued struggle with PSR, the club are only planning one more addition, which could be Crystal Palace defender Guehi, as mentioned.

The report states that Newcastle insiders have shared that PSR remains a problem, and has reduced Paul Mitchell’s capacity to make marquee signings unless they sell.

To that end, it’s very apparent that Newcastle do not want to sell Anthony Gordon, regardless of any move Liverpool could make in the coming weeks.

It was recently reported that Newcastle want to raid Chelsea for a player who Enzo Maresca is willing to sell.

But perhaps those plans have now been put on ice, and Howe may need to turn to Miguel Almiron for another season.
