Eddie Howe has provided an update on Tino Livramento after his injury as Newcastle took on Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday.

Newcastle ended up having a bad afternoon as they took on Arsenal, which could have ended so differently after the lively Nick Woltemade’s first-half header after a VAR controversy with an overturned Arsenal penalty.

But it was the second half that was Arsenal’s, and they left it late. Mikel Merino equalised with a header, but Gabriel stole all three points in the dying embers.

To add insult to injury, Tino Livramento was stretchered off among the madness in the second half. His boss has provided an immediate injury update after the misery in the evening.

Tino Livramento injury update

Eddie Howe stated on Livramento post-match that he sustained a knee injury, but didn’t elaborate to any extent. He said: “Seeing him go off in that manner was really distressing.”

He added to Sky Sports: “Yeah, I don’t know. I’ve not spoken to him or anyone from the medical side yet.”

It would be a real shame for it to be a very serious one, with the young defender emerging as one of the players Thomas Tuchel will be looking at for his England squad.

Alongside this, it’s also a massive blow for the Geordies. Livramento is cementing himself as one of the first names on the team sheet week in week out, so to see him out for an extended period would be terrible. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Eddie Howe speaks on Newcastle vs Arsenal clash

Howe also spoke after the game on Newcastle’s performance after the game, deeming them unlucky to walk away from the fixture without anything to shout about.

Howe added: “We had our chances in the game. We took the lead and were desperate to hold on to it. Nick made some good saves for us, but in the end it wasn’t to be, especially with the set plays at the end, which was disappointing.

“Where were we short? Well, I don’t know. Early on I didn’t feel we were physically at our best today. We looked a little bit jaded.

“Still, we took the lead, and sometimes – especially with the schedule we’ve had this season – you’re not at your physical best, but you still have to find a way to win. For a while, it looked like we were on course to do that.”

Newcastle take on Nottingham Forest in the Premier League next weekend, where Howe and his squad will be hoping the fortunes are a little more in their favour.
