Eddie Howe gives immediate Fabian Schar injury comment after Newcastle loss to Barcelona

Fabian Schar suffered a serious injury scare during Newcastle United’s defeat against Barcelona, and Eddie Howe immediately commented on it after the final whistle.

Schar put his body on the line for Newcastle during the game when he blocked a stinging shot from Marcus Rashford, which hit him directly in the face.

The strike was so powerful that it immediately knocked Schar to the ground. He then received treatment from Newcastle’s medical team, who declared him fit to continue.

However, he could not stop Rashford from opening the scoring shortly after as the on-loan Manchester United forward headed the ball into the back of the net.

Eddie Howe is awaiting further updates on Fabian Schar

Schar was still reeling from the impact of his block a few minutes after Rashford’s first goal as he was forced to sit down on the pitch before receiving further treatment.

Howe was left with no choice but to substitute the 33-year-old, as he was evidently still suffering from the situation, and the Newcastle boss spoke to TNT Sports about him after the final whistle.

“With Schar, I’ve not really seen him and had any confirmation on how he is.”

Unfortunately, Howe wasn’t able to provide Newcastle fans with much clarity about Schar’s status, and fans will be hoping to hear more about the defender ahead of the weekend.

Newcastle will be back in action on Sunday against Bournemouth, but it remains to be seen whether or not Schar will be available for the Magpies.

Fabian Schar delivered a defensively strong performance against Barcelona

Newcastle might have suffered a 2-1 loss against Barcelona after a stunning Rashford brace that left Bruno Fernandes impressed, but Schar was defensively impressive throughout the night.

The Switzerland international had put together an outstanding performance at St James’ Park up until his injury, as he looked to keep the La Liga side at bay.
