Leeds United’s Ezgjan Alioski is certainly a player that booming under manager Marcelo Bielsa and has been one of the stars this season at Elland Road.
The 27-year-old has played more Championship minutes than any of his teammates and started the campaign in an attacking wide role.
But at the start of the calendar year he dropped back into the left-back role and it’s in this position that he’s taken his game to a new level.
The Macedonia international has become a greater attacking threat with his overlapping runs and he’s been part of a solid recognisable back four too.
Leeds legend Eddie Gary has been blown away by the quality of Alioski’s performances this season and hyped him up ahead of the crucial fixture at home to Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon.
“He’s playing some football the left-back (Alioski), but him and the boy Harrison now that left side are getting to the deadfall line and creating chances. At times he (Alioski) is getting in the box more than anybody, he’s making great runs into the box,” Gray told LUTV.
Dropping Alioski into the full-back role has been a masterstroke decision by Bielsa and he’s now an ever-present in the team, which means Barry Douglas has even been restricted to a spot on the bench.
Alioski certainly is one of the hardest working players in the division and his energy spreads through the team to boost his team.
He had his criticisms when playing in a more attacking position and often played the wrong final ball, but it’s really suited him arriving late and pushing on from defence.
Leeds will move five points clear of third-placed Sheffield United with a victory on Saturday and Alioski will have a big role to play both offensively and defensively.
