Eddie Gray claims Leeds man has done ‘extraordinary things’

Eddie Gray has told The Official Leeds United podcast that Marcelo Bielsa has done extraordinary things when asked about the impact that the Argentinian has made during his time at Elland Road.

Leeds have endured a frustrating start to the campaign, with just two wins so far in the Premier League.

It says a lot about the progress that the Whites have made that it does seem that they have made a disappointing start to the season.

On this day four years ago, Leeds had fallen to 10th in the Championship after a 3-1 loss away at Brentford under Thomas Christiansen. It was their fourth defeat in a row.

Bielsa came in the following year. And while promotion did not come straight away, a change in culture certainly did. Leeds have played a stunning brand of football for several years now.

And they enjoyed a brilliant start to life back in the Premier League last season.

Leeds are yet to rediscover their best form this term. But Gray issued a reminder of just how far the club have come under Bielsa.

“To be honest with you, I think he’s done extraordinary things,” he told The Official Leeds United podcast. “I’ve got to be honest and, I’m not being unfair to the players, but before Marcelo came, some of the players that are playing in the team at the present time, never showed the qualities that were shown since Marcelo came and coached them.

“That says a lot for Marcelo, it says a lot for the players.”

Leeds still yet to reach their ceiling under Bielsa

Leeds have endured some rotten luck with injuries this season. Of course, some may criticise the club for not doing more to strengthen in the summer.

But few could have foreseen just how many players would be struck down throughout the term.

It suggests that there is a lot more to come from Leeds. And that leaves the door open to suggest that the Whites are still yet to reach their ceiling under Bielsa.
