Eberechi Eze to Arsenal gets surprise verdict from Theo Walcott, ‘the big question I’ve got…’

Before the transfer window ends at the end of the month, Arsenal are still interested in signing Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.

For Crystal Palace, Eberechi Eze has just lifted his second trophy in the space of around three months.

Eze was once again at the heart of Palace’s win at Wembley against Liverpool, even if he did miss his penalty in the shootout.

Of course, it’s Eze’s mercurial qualities that lend themselves to winning trophies, which has in part led to Arsenal’s interest in the England international.

TBR Football recently revealed that Eze has told his friends that he’s going to join Arsenal – there’s sufficient belief on the player’s side at least.

Theo Walcott warns Eberechi Eze about joining Arsenal

That being said, former Gunner Theo Walcott has now shared his thoughts on Eze leaving Palace for Arsenal on the ‘It’s Called Soccer!’ podcast.

And in what might be music to Palace fans’ ears, Walcott admitted that he thought Eze should stay in south London.

Walcott explained: “Look, I think the big question we’ve got, or the big thing we’ve got to look at is the World Cup year.

“As a player, if it’s a World Cup year and I’m thinking, I’m going to play consistently for Palace this year.

“So if I’m Eze, for instance, my thought process is obviously Arsenal has a different kind of pressure, there is the pressure of them challenging for the title, there’s a lot of words that Mikel needs to win something this year.

“So being a player that will help the squad, of course he will, he’s an absolutely gifted player, he will help the squad – but will he help himself?

“And the good thing about Eze’s situation [at Palace] is he can play every week, he has that maverick style, they accept [him] taking those risks. I think he’s a player that can take those risks at Palace.

“I don’t think he will get that at Arsenal, but then if he obviously has a really good season at Palace, he will go to the World Cup. I’m pretty sure of that.”

“Then what other teams will look at him then, after that? So I think for me, if I’m Eze, I would probably stay put just because of the World Cup year. If it wasn’t the World Cup year, I would move on.”

Tottenham are also hoping to steal Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace

Ultimately Walcott still said that Eze would improve Arsenal – he was one hundred per cent sure.

But in terms of the 27-year-old’s own interests, Walcott might be right in suggesting that Eze was better off staying at a club where he will be the key cog, rather than a luxury addition.

And whilst Arsenal fans might not want to hear it, that’s perhaps why Eze would be best off joining their rivals Tottenham Hotspur if he were to leave Palace.

Unlike their north London rivals, Spurs would be able to guarantee Eze the number 10 role in Thomas Frank’s team, partly owing to James Maddison’s injury.

At Arsenal, Eze might have to make do with substitute appearances either on the left wing or in place of Declan Rice or Martin Odegaard.

But in terms of minutes ahead of the World Cup, Eze would certainly get a lot more at Spurs.

TBR Football has confirmed that Tottenham are interested in Eze once again.

But if Eze doesn’t join Arsenal this summer, fans in N5 would probably prefer that he remained south of the river.
