East Fife boss Darren Young has told Football Scotland that it will take a ‘hardworking’ performance from his players to beat Rangers this weekend.

The Scottish League One outfit welcome the Gers to Bayview Stadium on Sunday looking to claim a huge scalp in the Scottish League Cup.

Rangers come into the fixture on the back of a tremendous 7-3 aggregate victory over Midtjylland in the Europa League.

Young isn’t daunted by the prospect of facing the Glaswegian giants but has cited four players who he seemingly thinks could make a difference.

He told Football Scotland: “You can’t be telling the players to keep Defoe quiet or Morelos quiet because then Arfield or Davis will sneak in.

“We just need a right good hardworking performance defensively and to not make any mistakes.

“I’ve told the players to enjoy it and not to freeze on the occasion. Before you know it, the 90 minutes are finished and the hype over Rangers has moved on and you’re back to league business.”

TBR Verdict – Rangers must show they mean business on the domestic front

The barometer for Steven Gerrard’s success will ultimately come down to how many trophies he wins as the club’s manager.

On that basis, he must ensure that his team gets off to a flyer when they travel to East Fife this weekend.

Gerrard would love to end Rangers’ long wait for silverware and his team has a real chance to show they mean business against lower league opposition this weekend.

Given their performances so far this season it is clear that the Gers are heading in the right direction and Gerrard must avoid an upset this weekend.

Young has highlighted the names of four players and you can bet he will be working up a cunning plan to stop those players.

That said, he does make a good point when he says he will have to prepare his side for the whole squad of quality players.

Defoe, Morelos, David and Arfield pose a significant threat but Rangers are blessed with quality right through their squad.
