In the summer, Southampton were linked with a move for Colombian forward Duvan Zapata. As reported by Gazza Mercato, they and long-term admirers West Ham United were keen on the player.
Southampton, in the end, went domestic, bringing in Danny Ings from Liverpool who has been impressive when fit.
However, he has not reached anything like the level Zapata has.

The Colombian striker is currently in the form of his life at Atalanta. He joined the Bergamo club on loan for the season after making his previous loan spell at Sampdoria from Napoli permanent.
Sampdoria are probably wondering why they did that now. The 27-year-old scored four goals at the weekend as Atalanta thrashed Frosinone in Serie A. He has now scored in his last eight games in a row, with an overall tally in that period of 14 goals.
Zapata was again linked with West Ham over the weekend as a result, with a rumoured €40 (£35.4) million fee being mentioned.
Southampton will no doubt wish they had a player in similar form in attack as they would be nowhere near the relegation battle if they did. Perhaps a player to take a look at when the summer comes around.
