Duvan Zapata admits he’s an Arsenal fans, refuses to rule out Premier League move

Atalanta and Colombia striker, Duvan Zapata, has admitted that he is a big fan of Arsenal, amid reports of a potential move to the Premier League.

The pacey striker has been linked with a move to England in the last few windows. Indeed, back in December, Calciomercato claimed Atalanta could be willing to sell Zapata for around £45m.

No move has materialised, of course, and Zapata remains in Italy scoring goals. He has 14 in all competitions this season, including three in the Champions League.

But speaking to Italian media this week, Zapata has admitted that a move to the PL may happen, and that he has a particular interest in Arsenal and Thierry Henry.

“My future in the Premier League? Never say never in football,” Zapata told il Gazzetta dello Sport  (via Football.London)

“When I was a kid I was always watching the Premier League. I was an Arsenal fan! I got up early every weekend to watch their games. I was in love with Thierry Henry’s Arsenal. In Colombia, we love the Premier League. Who knows, one day I could play there.”

Zapata has built a fine reputation for himself over in Italy, having scored 61 times in just 119 games for Atalanta. (Stats via Transfermarkt)

At 30, he might now be out of the line of sight for Arsenal. The Gunners have, in recent windows, opted to sign younger players, albeit they did make an exception to land Willian last summer.

TBR View: Nice comments from Zapata but surely a no from Arsenal?

It would be strange to see Arsenal move for a 30-year-old striker when they already have a few over that hill in the likes of Lacazette and Aubameyang.

Zapata is a talent and can produce the goods, but Atalanta would want big money and Arsenal need to be wise with their pennies this summer.

So while it’s a nice story from Zapata, it’s hard to see it actually coming to any sort of fruition.
