Dutche Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem have confirmed that Aston Villa will complete the signing of 16-year-old defender Sil Swinkels – with the Netherlands youth international joining the club’s Under-18 side.
Swinkels has played numerous times for Vitesse’s Under-19 side and that has seemingly attracted interest from Villa, given the centre-back is playing well above his age. Villa have swooped to sign him.
However, Villa are yet to confirm the signing of Swinkels. The Midlands side boast plenty of options at centre-back, with Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa, Bjorn Engels, Kortney Hause and James Chester in the senior side.
That is some way of for Swinkels, but certainly he will be targeting a place in the Under-23 side before the end of the season. Vitesse confirmed a move on Twitter on Monday, stating that Swinkels will join Villa’s Under-18’s.
Bradley Burton and Mungo Bridge started the last three Premier League 2 games for Villa’s Under-23 side. That will be Swinkels’ target, to break past both Bridge and Burton.
Plenty of Aston Villa fans reacted on Twitter to the news that Swinkels had joined the club this summer, though confirmation is yet to be posted by Villa. Many welcomed him – with one fan posting: “Great start to the window”.
