Everton’s first-team coach Duncan Ferguson has hailed youngster Dominic Calvert-Lewin and expects him to get better next season.

The 22-year-old ended up as the first-choice striker for the Toffees during the second half of the season and is a highly-rated talent.

He made 38 appearances across all competitions this season, managing eight goals and three assists in return.

The centre-forward has been named in the England Under-21s squad this summer for the European Championships in Italy and San Marino.

Calvert-Lewin has a decent goal record for the young lions and Everton coach Ferguson believes he will continue to get better next season at Goodison Park.

“I think he has got a bit of everything, he ticks all the boxes, he covers all the physicality,” Ferguson told Sky Sports.

“He can run in behind, he can come short, he’s great in the air, his touch is improving, he’s got a good goalscoring record. We think he can improve and we’re looking forward to Dominic doing that.”

TBR’s View:

Everton’s forward line was an issue for them this campaign and they need to become more prolific to break into the European spots next season.

Calvert-Lewin is a physical striker that has a great all around game, but whether he can turn into a 20-goal option remains to be seen.

It will be interesting to see if he gets the chance to lead the line next season, or whether a new attacking option will be signed in the summer to overtake him in the pecking order.
