Duncan Castles has told The Transfer Window podcast what Antonio Conte does not want to manage Newcastle United’s players at the moment.
Conte, 52, has been heavily linked with the Newcastle job after the Premier League side were the subject of a Saudi-backed £305million takeover.
Out of work, the Italian gaffer is easily the biggest manager without a job. He only just won the Scudetto with Inter Milan – ending Juventus’ reign.
Plenty of managers have been linked with Newcastle. Including the likes of Frank Lampard, Lucien Favre, Steven Gerrard and Brendan Rodgers.
Conte is another name on that list – but Castles explained the stance of the ex-Inter gaffer. He stated Conte wants to work with better players.

“Conte, he doesn’t want to be in charge of the current Newcastle players. He doesn’t want to be in charge of the players they are capable of buying.
“His career ambitions are to take charge where he can immediately compete at Newcastle – therefore, he is off limits to them,” Castles said.
Castles on Conte: Italian not what Newcastle need, right now
Five years down the line when Newcastle are a top-four side and in the Champions League – then Conte would be perfect for the Tyneside club.
But right now, with Newcastle sitting in 19th place and in desperate need of a spark that can get them out of that position, Conte is not the right man.
They need a gaffer with Premier League experience, and the knowledge to get them out of a relegation scrap. On paper, Steve Bruce is ideal.
But the ill-feeling around Bruce remaining in the dugout means his position is now untenable. A new gaffer is needed, but Conte is not the right man.
