Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle has criticised Davinson Sanchez for his defending in Tottenham’s Europa Conference League defeat last night.

The 24-year-old struggled as ten-man Spurs were beaten 2-1 by Mura in Slovenia.

Sanchez slipped in the build-up to Tomi Horvat’s opener in the 11th minute, though he wasn’t in a good position to begin with.

Although the £42million defender improved as the game went on, he was turned inside out as Tottenham conceded in injury time.

Hoddle, covering the game on BT Sport, was at a loss to explain Sanchez’s defending for both of Mura’s goals.

“This is dreadful defending from Sanchez,” said the Tottenham legend.

“If this is a 16-year-old defender, you do it twice maybe.

“He did exactly the same thing. He’s allowed the player to come inside.

“If that’s a 15-year-old, you’re saying, ‘You can’t do that again’.

“He’s forgotten about what happened in the first half.

“I just cannot understand for the life of me why he’s allowed him to cut inside.

“He’s not read the situation in a vital part of the game.”

Spurs will likely have to beat Rennes in their final game to be assured of qualification for the knockout stages.

Tottenham can also no longer qualify as group winners, meaning they will have to play an extra round.

Spurs are back in action on Sunday when they face Burnley in the Premier League.
