‘Downgrade on Xhaka’: Some Arsenal fans react as club target 24 y/o Lothar Matthaus labelled a ‘pearl’

Arsenal are reportdly interested in Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.

According to German publication Tag 24, the Gunners, as well as Napoli and Manchester City, are all keen on the Switzerland international. Gladbach are keen to sell players this summer for financial reasons.

Arsenal have challenged Napoli for signings before in the past. Indeed, the north London side famously beat out the southern Italy side to the signature for both Nicolas Pepe in 2019 and Gabriel Magalhaes in 2020.

Moreover, Zakaria has some well-known fans in the world of football. In an interview with Sport Bild via Sports Illustrated, former Germany international Lothar Matthaus described the Swiss international as a ‘pearl’.

Although the 24-year-old is on the radar for some big clubs and is liked by big names in football, some Arsenal fans on social media are against the club signing Zakaria.

Indeed, the Gladbach star did not feature much for Switzerland at Euro 2020. Whereas Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka was one of the stars of the tournament.
