It was another positive day at the office for Arsenal today as they saw off Aston Villa to continue their march towards securing Champions League football.

A goal from Bukayo Saka was enough to settle the tie in Arsenal’s favour, despite Villa rallying in the second 45 and forcing the Gunners onto the back foot at times. But in the end, Arsenal’s rearguard held strong and Mikel Arteta will have been delighted with the clean sheet.

In terms of individual performances for Arsenal, there were a number of excellent ones. Indeed, one of the players to perform really well was Thomas Partey, who put in a superb showing in the middle of the park. In fact, such was his display, that it appeared that Villa’s own midfield general, Douglas Luiz, had had enough of trying to win the battle.

As seen in the picture below available via Getty Images, Luiz is visibly exhausted or fed up – some might say sick – of chasing Partey in the middle of the park.

TBR’s View: Partey Continues To Shine For Arsenal

With Arsenal having so many talented young flair players around the squad it is imperative that they have some steel in the middle of the park. And Thomas Partey brings that for the Gunners.

Once again, he was excellent today and Villa, as Luiz’s face tells, will have been sick of seeing him. If Partey can continue to dominate in the middle of the park then Arsenal have every chance of sealing a top four slot.

Partey has the quality to succeed. Paul Scholes called him brilliant back in 2020, and that is exactly what he is being at the moment for the Gunners.
