Doucoure faces lengthy layoff owing to foot injury

Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure faces a lengthy injury layoff (Liverpool Echo).

The Frenchman has been in inspired form this season, yet now he faces a spell on the sidelines.

The appointment of Rafa Benitez has been getting the best out of Doucoure at Goodison Park.

This is his second season at Everton and his numbers have been absurd so far this season.

It was just a matter of weeks ago that Jamie Carragher namechecked the Frenchman.

Many fans were loving Doucoure’s fantastic performance against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

It was a display that saw Carragher name him as one of the Premier League’s standout players.

However, now it looks like the Toffees will be going without their starman for a little while.

The Frenchman is set to undergo surgery on a metatarsal problem and will be sidelined for a number of weeks.

That leaves Benitez with a huge problem.

In eight games this season Doucoure has already bettered his numbers from last season.

He has two goals and four assists in eight games this season and is offering 1.1 key pass and 2.5 tackles per game (WhoScored).

His tenacity in midfield and his seemingly newfound ability as a creative becon make him a player who will be greatly missed.

The likes of Tom Davies and Jean-Philipee Gbamin will be in place to replace him in midfield.

However, finding someone who can replicate the performances of Doucoure will not be easy.

He’s been Benitez’s glue this season, linking the defence, midfield and attack.

Not many players have been smoother in transition this season and Doucoure will be a huge miss.
