‘Doubtful’… Celtic very unlikely to sign 21-year-old Premier League player today

Celtic’s pursuit of a left-back continues this January as Brendan Rodgers looks urgently at filling a Greg Taylor-shaped hole in his defence.

The Scotland left-back is out for a number of weeks and with Rodgers resorting to using the unfancied Alexandro Bernabei, the Hoops gaffer is now actively looking for a stopgap until Taylor returns fully fit.

TBR Celtic told this morning how PSG left-back Layvin Kurzawa is being ‘looked at‘ by Rodgers so it seems that moves could be made in this transfer window.

However, one player who had previously been linked to Celtic seems to be staying put this January after his club seemed unwilling to allow him to go on loan.

The Daily Mail reported that Celtic tried to sign Spanish left-back Hugo Beuno but it seems that the 21-year-old highly rated youngster is being told to stay put. That’s according to journalist, Mark Hendry.

Taking to social media, Hendry posted on X, “Told ‘doubtful’ Wolves would allow Hugo Bueno loan exit this month.

“Had been linked with Celtic as left-back.”

But now that a move seems unlikely, Brendan Rodgers will need to turn his attention elsewhere as the clock ticks down today.

With just two signings made in the January window, the Celtic fans will expect Rodgers to add at least a couple more with the goalkeeping position and, obviously, the left-back position deemed a priority.
