Leicester City have been busy already on transfer deadline day. The club have completed a deal reported to be worth £13 million for Dinamo Zagreb defender Filip Benkovic. They are also closing in on the signature of Turkish international Caglar Soyuncu from Freiburg. Two centre-backs coming in certainly raises further questions regarding the future of Manchester United target Harry Maguire.
But the Foxes will still want to keep hold of the England international, despite their defensive recruitment. They needed replacements for Aleksandar Dragovic and Robert Huth anyway, they now have that.
But surely the latest arrivals spell the end for the enigma that is Yohan Benalouane.
Leicester paid Parma around £5.6 million for the player in the summer of 2015. He arrived on the same day as N’Golo Kante at the King Power Stadium. It is fair to say he did not have the same impact.
Benalouane has played just 29 times for Leicester in three seasons. He also spent time on loan at Fiorentina, where he didn’t feature.
This summer, at the World Cup, he represented Tunisia and put in a horror show during the 5-2 mauling against Belgium. It was a performance that confirmed the 31-year-old is not at Premier League standard.
With his contract expiring next summer., securing his exit before the end of the month must now be one of Leicester’s priorities.
