Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was left really confused when a reporter asked him about Leeds United and Newcastle United last night.

The Reds suffered their first loss of the Premier League campaign after falling to a 2-1 defeat against Manchester United on Monday night.

Klopp’s men have now only picked up two points from their opening three games. And the German boss was confused when a reporter asked him about Leeds and Newcastle’s performances over the weekend.

The Magpies drew 3-3 with the champions Manchester City on Sunday, while Leeds thrashed Chelsea 3-0 earlier in the afternoon.

Klopp asked about Leeds and Newcastle

And while speaking to Viaplay Fotball, Klopp was asked about both teams after his side’s loss to United.

Reporter Jan Aage Fjørtoft asked: “Was this week an old-fashioned week that the teams who started better, ran a bit more than the others, and won some key games, talking about Leeds, Newcastle and Manchester United?”

“I don’t understand this question to be honest.” Klopp responded.

“Because they were at it in the first minute, weren’t they? It’s fair to say.”

“Yeah, absolutely. But what does that have to do with Newcastle and Leeds?”

“Because they started very well.”

Klopp smiled and responded: “Ah, I see. Ok.”

The Liverpool boss then went on to answer the question in more detail and feels his side responded well after a slow start to the game.

“The situation was clear before the game, when you have the ball you cannot fly in challenges and have the ball in the same moment,” he said.

“We know what we want to do and we are a team who is famous for an outstanding attitude and that’s what the boys had today as well. But in the beginning, United could play the game they wanted and we couldn’t play the game we wanted.

“And then they hit the post, and then they score the goal. Then from a specific moment on we really played the game we wanted to play, causing massive problems.

“We were unlucky in situations, especially on the set-piece that we didn’t score that could’ve turned the game. Hypothetical, of course. But could have turned the game.”

It’s certainly not been an ideal start for Klopp as his side have already dropped what could turn out to be crucial points by the end of the season.

Whereas Newcastle and Leeds have got off to flying starts in the league this season and remain unbeaten.

The Reds are without some key players like Diogo Jota, Thiago Alcantara and Darwin Nunez at the moment. Klopp will be hoping to get some of his stars back as soon as possible as he looks to turn Liverpool’s slow start around.
