'Don't rule it out': Journalist shares signing Leeds could still make very late on this summer
Leeds United have certainly been busy this summer as Jesse Marsch has welcomed six new signings to the club.
But they could still make more moves during the current window, with Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross claiming the club could make a late move for an experienced goalkeeper.
Leeds have sold two of their best players this summer after Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha have both left the club. But the Whites are using the funds to bolster Marsch’s squad in an attempt to avoid another relegation battle.
And the club could yet move for another goalkeeper to compete with Illan Meslier for the number one spot at Elland Road.
Leeds could make late signing this summer
The journalist was asked if the club could try to sign a goalkeeper before the end of the window, and what this would mean for Kiko Casilla and Kristoffer Klaesson.
Cross responded: “The ambition was there for an experienced stopper in January, but that department has been quiet this summer. Don’t rule it out before the end of the window, but it’s not currently a priority.
“Casilla’s future is expected to be resolved before the end of the window, while Klaesson will continue as the under-21s goalkeeper with places on the bench if nobody else turns up between the sticks.”
Veteran Leeds goalkeeper Casilla spent last season on loan at La Liga outfit Elche and his future remains unclear at Elland Road.
Marsch already has a capable goalkeeper in Meslier and the 22-year-old has been brilliant since moving from FC Lorient two years ago.
The France U21 international is still considerably young for a goalkeeper and has shown huge potential so far in the Premier League.
TBR’s View: If Casilla leaves, Leeds will need another goalkeeper
While Casilla didn’t enjoy the best loan spell at Elche, he represents an experienced option for Marsch if Meslier is ever unavailable.
But if the Spanish veteran moves on this summer, that leaves Leeds with the 21-year-old Klaesson, who has only ever played 35 minutes of Premier League football.
If Meslier suffers an injury or is ruled out of any games this season, Marsch will want an experienced option to step in between the sticks.
