Isaac Hayden produced an impressive performance in the middle of the park to help Newcastle United claim a 3-1 win over Southampton in the Premier League.

Newcastle picked up three points at St James’ Park to climb up to 12th in the league table and now they are looking set for a mid-table finish.

Ayoze Perez justifiably received the main plaudits after the game as his stunning hat-trick capped a match-winning personal performance.

But Hayden’s midfield masterclass was not overlooked. Newcastle fans appreciated just how well the former Arsenal player performed.

Hayden’s performance was the perfect box-to-box exhibition; he made tackles, interceptions, carried the ball forward with meaning and provided an assist.

The 24-year-old has stepped up since being recalled to the first-team midway through this season and he is now a vital player in Rafa Benitez’s side.

However, Hayden still wants to leave in the summer. He has conducted himself professionally but needs to move down south for family reasons (The Times).

This is a major shame for the Magpies, who will struggle to replace Hayden if he is granted his departure next summer.
