Chris Sutton has become the latest pundit to wade in on the fallout from the Nottingham Forest and Liverpool game this weekend.
Forest were incensed after referee Paul Tierney made a mistake and after Darwin Nunez scored a late winner, tempers flared inside the City Ground.
The Forest owner joined coaching staff in being furious with Tierney at the full-time whistle and the decision and subsequent goal from Nunez ensured it’s been a talking point all weekend.

And speaking about the incident on the latest episode of It’s All Kicking Off, former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has said Forest are right to be angry, but should also be annoyed at their own defending.
“The whole attack on Paul Tierney, I think he left himself open to it and I’m not disputing that. But the whole owner coming on the pitch and some of the forest coaches getting involved and the anger. I hope they showed the same type of anger towards those two Forest players who could have cleared the ball and they didn’t. So don’t blame Paul Tierney, a minute and 52 seconds after. Had they gone straight up and scored then maybe I’d have understood things a bit more than I am right now,” Sutton said.
Forest need to move on
This whole episode has been blown completely out of proportion all because Forest couldn’t clear their lines at the end of the game.
Had Liverpool not scored, we’d likely not have even heard a peep from this. As it happens, Forest failed to get rid of the ball, paid the price, and now blame someone else.
Sure, Tierney made an error. But referees make errors all the time and every single club in the league has had decisions go for and against them this season.
Forest just need to take their medicine here and move on. Hiring Mark Clattenberg as part of the club hasn’t helped anything either.
