Donny van de Beek issues verdict on Anthony Gordon after Everton win

Donny van de Beek has lauded Antony Gordon following his performance for Everton in their win over Leeds, and insisted that he has seen a lot of quality from the youngster – in comments reported on the club’s official website.

Gordon scored the final goal in the 3-0 victory against Marcelo Bielsa’s side at Goodison Park. Obviously, he had little idea that he was going to get credited with the goal having got in the way of Richarlison’s effort from the edge of the box.

He may not have intended to score. But he deserved a slice of luck after an outstanding display for the Toffees in their emphatic victory.

As Frank Lampard suggested, picking a man of the match would have incredibly difficult. Every single one of Everton’s players were arguably better than their Leeds counterpart. And Gordon was one of those who really shone.

The 20-year-old has been a positive throughout the disappointing campaign. And he has continued to look a huge prospect now that Lampard is in place.

Certainly, one player who was impressed by Gordon was van de Beek. The Dutchman made his full debut in the win. And he suggested that the academy graduate has really caught his eye.

“He’s a good player. A young player but what I’ve seen in the first weeks he has a lot of quality and he showed it again today,” he told Everton’s official website.

Gordon the revelation Everton have needed in difficult season

A lot of the gloom surrounding Goodison Park has now lifted. There looks to be plenty of optimism now that Rafa Benitez has gone and been replaced by Frank Lampard.

Gordon’s form is one of the reasons why Lampard’s side have that breathing space. He has given supporters something to smile about.

Only two players have scored more this term. And he has done it having featured a lot less frequently than current top scorer Demarai Gray.

There will be plenty of excitement about what he will now do now that Everton have Lampard at the helm and players such as van de Beek and Dele Alli around him.
