It takes a lot to convince Daniel Levy to get his chequebook out. However, if he needed convincing over the price-tag of Donny van de Beek, he has just seen it first hand.
Tottenham Hotspur lost the first-leg of their Champions League clash with Ajax last night. Van de Beek scored the only goal of the game but it was not just this telling moment that proves his worth.
The 22-year-old put in a sensational display in the heart of the Dutch side’s midfield, putting Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen to shame with his dynamic performance.

Tottenham, of course, have been linked with a move for Van de Beek this season.
It was Italian source Calciomercato who first suggested that Spurs could be leading the chase for his signature back in October (as reported by talkSPORT), when not many were talking up his achievements in Amsterdam.
Last week, Tottenham were again linked with the player, with Calciomercato suggesting a £43 million asking price for his services.
Based on this display, Tottenham and Levy should surely put their money where their mouth is in order to bring Van de Beek to the Premier League.
He is exactly what they need in the middle of the park and could be a vital cog in Mauricio Pochettino’s machine going forward.
