‘Done great’: Kevin Campbell now backs brilliant Arsenal selection decision Mikel Arteta made at the start of the season
Arsenal have had a brilliant start to the season, and currently sit top of the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta had plenty of difficult selection decisions to make going into the start of the campaign.
Arsenal’s defence looks very different to the line-up Arteta used last season.
And now Campbell has backed Arteta’s decision to start Ben White at right-back.
The Spanish manager was forced into the decision on the opening day due to Takehiro Tomiyasu’s fitness issues.
Campbell believes White dealt with Wilfried Zaha ‘perfectly’ and the position is now White’s to lose.
Campbell has backed White at right-back
When asked about the full-back situation at Arsenal, Campbell said: “I think Ben White’s done great at right-back. I wouldn’t change it at all, I would keep it as it is.
“Truthfully, I think Tomiyasu needed the minutes in midweek, because he’s not played a lot of football, he’s been out for a long time.
“I think Ben White’s done fine at right-back, I really do.
“And us being top of the league tells us that he’s done fine, so I think we keep it as it is.
“If there’s problems moving forward then the manager has the opportunity to change it.
“But while you’re riding high, you stick with the players that have taken you there.
“I don’t hear any complaints about Ben White being a right-back in that game.”
Arsenal now have confirmation that their Europa League match against PSV Eindhoven on Thursday has been postponed.
However, they can look forward to a visit to Brentford on Sunday as Premier League action returns.
And Campbell has backed White to continue at right-back while performances are good and results are positive.
