Nottingham Forest have been linked with Rangers star Joe Aribo in recent weeks.
The Scottish Sun recently claimed the Reds were leading the way for the 25-year-old midfielder.
However, Forest now look set to miss out on Aribo as Southampton close in on the Nigeria international.

On Tuesday, the Daily Mail claimed the Saints were hoping to fend off competition from Forest and Fulham.
Talks have accelerated since then and now, Southampton are apparently on the verge of signing Aribo.
On Wednesday morning, Romano took to Twitter with an update regarding the City Ground target.
He claimed Aribo would be “next” for Southampton after landing Romeo Lavia from Manchester City.
“Next one, Joe Aribo from Rangers on £6m fee plus add ons,” he tweeted. “Done and set to be sealed.”
Forest have done superbly in the summer transfer window so far.
The Reds have bought Taiwo Awoniyi and Giulian Biancone, and have signed Dean Henderson on loan.
In addition, Forest are reportedly about to sign Mainz captain Moussa Niakhate.
However, it looks as though they’ll miss out on a player they were apparently looking to ‘spend big’ for.
Aribo has developed into an “all-round top midfielder” at Rangers following his move from Charlton in 2019.
It’s a shame Forest won’t get him, but there’s still plenty of time for them to bolster their ranks.
