Reported Everton summer target Wilfried Zaha has been described by Don Hutchison as one of the “very best” at one v one situations, in conversation with Optus Sport.
According to a report in the Daily Mail from July, the Toffees had rekindled their interest in the Crystal Palace winger, having been linked with him last summer.
Newcastle United, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich were also said to be eyeing Zaha, who has made 368 competitive appearances for the Eagles, registering 62 goals and 71 assists.
In the end, the 27-year-old stayed put at Selhurst Park, while Everton bolstered their attacking ranks by snapping up James Rodriguez.
While Everton began the campaign superbly, they were brought back down to earth with a 2-0 loss at Southampton at the weekend.
As for Zaha, he has clocked up five goals and one assist in six Premier League games this term, and was in particularly inspired form in the 2-1 win at Fulham last time out.
“People look at the Premier League and see superstars, and there might be better all-round players than Wilf Zaha, people like (Sadio) Mane and Kevin De Bruyne,” former Everton midfielder Hutchison told Optus Sport.
“But in one v one situations with the ball at his feet, I think he’s up there in Europe with some of the very best. You would never want to play against Wilf Zaha one v one.”
Zaha has made no secret of his desire to leave Palace and test himself at a higher level, and his early-season performances will surely have certainly piqued the interest of potential suitors.
Even though the Toffees have strengthened their ranks this summer, a player of Zaha’s calibre should not be passed up, and there’s no doubt that transfer rumours around the Ivory Coast international will resurface next January and in the summer.
