Don Hutchison compares Everton winger Bernard to Bernardo Silva

Don Hutchison has been impressed with the form of Everton star Bernard recently, and reckons he could become a bit like Manchester City ace Bernardo Silva next season.

The Brazilian winger seems to have turned a corner for the Toffees having made an indifferent start to his debut campaign at Goodison Park.

Initially, Bernard was in and out of the team but now he is a trusted member of Marco Silva’s starting XI.

The former Shakhtar Donetsk player has made 31 appearances in all competitions so far. He doesn’t have the most impressive set of statistics with only two goals and four assists, but certainly in recent weeks Bernard has started to show how dangerous he can really be.

And former Everton midfielder Hutchison reckons he could really kick on in 2019/2020.

He told Premier League Productions, quoted by The Daily Star: “He was a little bit slight coming from Shakhtar in the summer and we didn’t know if he was going to cut it in the Premier League.

“But he has got stronger and I guarantee you, not that he will necessarily be as good as Bernardo Silva, but you will see a stronger player next season.

“You will see someone that has got his Premier League legs and will be better next season.”

TBR’s view

If Bernard can get anywhere near the level of Silva, then Everton fans are in for a real treat.

The Portugal international, who was a part of the nation’s Euro 2016-winning squad, has been imperious for City this term and could well find himself nominated for the PFA Player of the Season.

The pair are quite similar in stature and are both very good technically.

Silva has been hailed for his superb footballing intelligence and incredible work rate.

If Hutchison’s prediction rings true, then Everton will have a superstar on their hands.
