Don Hutchison has told BBC Radio 5 Live that he believes Celtic should keep Oliver Burke on a permanent basis beyond his current loan spell, which expires at the end of the season.

The 21-year-old has been in decent form for the Scottish champions. He is currently on loan from English Championship side West Bromwich Albion, but the temporary spell does not include a permanent clause.

The former Nottingham Forest and RB Leipzig attacker has been has had a hand in seven goals for Celtic during his 14 league and cup appearances. He has scored four goals, and created three more.

His explosive pace and willingness to run the channels and work hard as endeared himself to Hoops fans. Former Scotland international Hutchison has urged Burke to remain with the Scottish champions.

“There’s no need for Ollie Burke to move away from Celtic because at the present time,” Hutchison said. “The form he has been in, not amazing form but you know, better form from where he was a year ago.

“He probably wouldn’t get in most Premier League sides at the moment, not starting anyway. If I was giving Burke advice, I’d say stay at Celtic as long as you can as that is the place for you to learn your trade.”

TBR’s view

West Brom spent £15million (Mail)to sign Scotland international Burke in the summer of 2017. He has managed just 21 appearances for the Baggies, and is likely to be surplus to requirements.

The Midlands outfit will want a similar fee to the one they paid for Burke less than two years ago. Celtic can hardly afford £15million for anyone, let alone a player that has been in okay-ish form this season.

Though staying at Celtic would be best for Burke, the Hoops simply cannot afford his price tag.
