Liverpool picked up their first win under Arne Slot by beating Real Betis in a friendly.

The Reds are in the United States on their pre-season tour, and several fans stayed up very late to watch them in action against the Spanish side.

As you would expect in a pre-season game under a new manager, it was a slow start from Liverpool, but they did well as the game progressed.

Dominik Szoboszlai scored the only goal of the night having started in a more advanced position.

The Hungary international had a good game, but the Man of the Match was a 17-year-old youngster who came on as a substitute.

Dominik Szoboszlai delivers verdict on Trey Nyoni’s performance for Liverpool

Trey Nyoni is one of Liverpool’s most exciting young talents.

The 17-year-old has already made his senior debut for the Reds – Jurgen Klopp gave him an opportunity against Southampton at Anfield in the 2023/24 season.

Everybody knew Nyoni has a big future ahead of him, but the youngster went up a level in everyone’s eyes with an outstanding performance against Real Betis late on Friday night.

The teenager came on at the half-hour mark to replace the injured Curtis Jones, and he made an almost instant impact.

Nyoni found a great pass to Szoboszlai, who after an exchange with Mohamed Salah, scored a lovely goal to help the Reds win the game.

Even after the goal, Nyoni was very active. He constantly got on the ball, looked really calm in possession, and we’re sure he has left a lasting impression in Slot’s head ahead of the start of the new season.

Szoboszlai was really impressed with Nyoni too and claimed that the youngster’s movement is so good that nobody can foul him.

He told Liverpool’s official website: “I like him a lot, he is a really offensive player. I just said on the bench to [Jarell] Quansah, you can’t even foul him because of his movements and stuff like this.

“Everybody saw in the second half, Nat [Phillips] was a centre-back but otherwise everybody was young and almost none of them were 20. But they still did a good job, didn’t concede a goal and had chances. So yeah, a good future.”

Nyoni’s stats vs Betis are so impressive

Slot used a number of senior players against Betis, but we must say that Nyoni was undoubtedly the star of the show for Liverpool.

The teenager only played for 41 minutes after coming off the bench, but he showed just how good a talent he is in that space of time.

Nyoni had 52 touches of the ball and completed 42 of his 46 attempted passes. That’s a 92 per cent passing accuracy, which is stunning for any player, let alone a 17-year-old

He made zero fouls in the entire game as well, which is impressive for a midfielder (SofaScore).

Nyoni, hailed as ‘incredible’ by Virgil van Dijk, is a star in the making, and if he can produce a few more impressive performances in pre-season, we have a feeling he will get opportunities in the senior side in the upcoming campaign.
