Liverpool centre-forward Dominic Solanke has been on the fringes at Anfield so far this season and was dealt another huge blow with his omission against Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday night.
The Reds suffered a shock 2-0 away loss in the Champions League group stages and have plenty of work to do now in Europe.
Jurgen Klopp handed Divock Origi a surprise late cameo for his first appearance of the season against Red Star, something that should be a kick in the teeth for Solanke.
Origi, 23, appeared to be completely out of favour at the Merseyside club following a loan spell away last season, but featured against Red Star.
Meanwhile, Solanke is yet to feature for the first team so far this campaign and it now looks like he’s behind Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Origi in the striker pecking order.
Solanke, 21, has plenty of work to do if he wants to break back into the senior picture and is having to make do with a spot in the Under-23s side for now.
The English striker earned first-team opportunities last season for Liverpool and did score on the final day of the Premier League against Brighton, but is yet to play for Klopp’s side since.
He is an England Under-21 international being tipped for a decent future and should be concerned about the backwards step he’s taken in the last few months.
