Dominic Solanke says ‘aggressive’ Liverpool player is a nightmare to play against

Dominic Solanke got the better of most defenders he came up against in the Premier League last season.

The striker netted 19 league goals, turning most of his opponents inside out in the process.

However, speaking to Sky Sports, Solanke has now admitted that there’s one centre-back he doesn’t like playing against – Virgil van Dijk.

Solanke says that Van Dijk is the toughest centre-back he’s ever come up against, claiming that the Dutchman has everything and is so hard to play against.

Solanke spoke about the Dutchman.

“Who is the hardest defender you have ever come up against in your career?” Solanke was asked.

“I’d probably say Van Dijk. He’s just got everything. He’s big, he’s strong, good on the ball, aggressive. I think he’s probably one of the best defenders of our time and he’s probably the most difficult,” Solanke said.

Van Dijk has Solanke’s number

Playing against Virgil van Dijk isn’t an easy task for any striker, but it will be even tougher for Solanke.

Indeed, Van Dijk will know Solanke’s game inside out as they were formerly teammates at Liverpool.

Van Dijk and Solanke’s spells at Anfield did overlap, and while it was brief, these two will have played against one another in a number of training sessions.

Van Dijk knows every trick in Solanke’s book, and that makes it all the more harder for the England international to get the better of his Liverpool counterpart.

Of course, playing against Van Dijk is already an almost impossible task. After all, Van Dijk is stronger, faster and smarter than most players he comes up against.

Tottenham face Liverpool in late December, and we’re sure Solanke won’t be looking forward to coming up against Van Dijk again in this clash.

As Solanke says, Van Dijk is one of the very best defenders of his generation.
