Dominic Calvert-Lewin says Everton’s Anthony Gordon has the ‘world at his feet’

Anthony Gordon has been a rare bright spot in a disappointing season for Everton and continues to go from strength to strength.

He rounded off England Under-21s’ 4-1 home win over Andorra last week and consistently shows fight and confidence on the wing for the Toffees.

The club has a proud tradition of blooding its own young talent and Gordon looks like the latest man to continue that tradition.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ben Godfrey are two more English talents on the books at Goodison Park and told Sky Sports just how good they think Gordon is.

Calvert-Lewin said: “He has got a great attitude, a willingness to learn and a willingness to work. He is an honest, hard-working lad and he lives properly.

“I think he believes in himself as well. I see a lot of myself in him when I was his age. He is not overly confident, just confident in his ability and he knows what he can do.

“When you get your chance, you just need to be a sponge and take in that experience because I probably played for two seasons and was not really happy with my performances.

“I was almost waiting for the penny to drop. He has bags of ability so I think if he keeps his head down and keeps working hard, he has the world at his feet.”

Godfrey added: “He is quick and skilful. He is a great guy as well. He works hard every day and he has got a bright future.

“He has got everything. He has that football confidence in his own ability that he should have because he is a great player and difficult to play against for full-backs. I have no doubt that he will kick on again.”

Gordon has experienced the pressure of a relegation battle this season and has managed to keep his levels high, which speaks to a strong character on young shoulders.

Everton will need more of that mentality and perhaps the odd goal or two between now and the end of the season as they battle the drop.
