Dominic Calvert-Lewin secured Everton’s place in the next round of the EFL Cup with a double against Sheffield Wednesday last night.

The young English striker got some much-needed goals as Everton eased some of the pressure building and improved their away record, and told the club’s official website about the club’s silverware ambitions for the campaign.

He said: “We want to win every time we step on the pitch but to win a cup and bring it back to Goodison would be a big, big thing. We are taking it very seriously and we have done the job tonight.

“We have to be pleased, it was an important game for us and we put in a good performance. You need to win when it is the cup but we wanted to play well. On a personal note it was nice to get two goals early. It was a good night’s work.”

TBR’s View – Silverware is long overdue and EFL Cup represents Everton’s best chance

The EFL Cup might not get pulses racing but it represents Everton’s best chance of silverware this season and the club are right to take it seriously.

Two tricky away trips have been navigated with two-goal victories and a trip to Wembley would give the Marco Silva era a fresh lease of life.
