Dominic Calvert-Lewin admits he’s recently watched Pippi Inzaghi videos for striking tips. This comes after Carlo Ancelotti compared the two.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Filippo Inzaghi. Not two players you’d have put together before this season but then Calvert-Lewin is raising his standards.

The Englishman has already bagged nine goals in all competitions this season, with six in the Premier League. His form prompted Carlo Ancelotti to compare him with former player Inzaghi last month.

Inzaghi, who enjoyed some of his best years under Ancelotti, bagged over 300 goals for club and country over his career. And now Calvert-Lewin admits he was inspired to study the Italian legend.

“That analogy from Carlo was more just an emphasis on being in the right place at the right time, one touch finishes,” he told the press. “It was not to say that I am a carbon copy of Pippo Inzaghi but that there are elements of his game that I have been showing in my game – one touches finishes and being in the right place to score.

“He mentioned it to me before he made those comments to the press. So I had a YouTube of his goals and watched like a 15-minute reel of them and obviously, a lot of his goals are one-touch finishes and he has got great movement. I am still learning so I try to take it in.”

In terms of pure goalscoring, there aren’t many better to learn from than Inzaghi. The Italian was never particularly gifted technically, nor was he a physical specimen. In fact, you can argue that Calvert-Lewin already has him beaten on both counts. But Inzaghi could sure find the back of the net.

More than that, he delivered for Ancelotti. If Calvert-Lewin can permanently add similar movement and quick-thinking to his game, Ancelotti could turn him into a sensational player.
