Emi Martinez has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
The Argentine is a World Cup winner and he even won the Yashin Trophy last year off the back of his incredible performances for both club and country.
The £20m man is truly a star these days, but it wasn’t too long ago that he was nothing more than a fringe player at Arsenal.
Indeed, Martinez barely had a sniff at Arsenal for most of his eight years in north London, but after a run in the team towards the end of the 2019/20 season, he got a move to Aston Villa that would change everything.
Speaking on the Sky Sports Premier League YouTube channel, Petr Cech has been discussing his former teammate’s recent development, and he says that Martinez has improved so much since leaving Arsenal.

Emi Martinez has improved since leaving Arsenal
Cech shared his verdict on his former Gunners deputy.
“The other two obvious ones, and we’ve seen the change at Arsenal, Emi Martinez is another one. The way since he left Arsenal and started playing at Aston Villa, became the number one for Argentina, a world champion he’s really gone in the right direction and he’s doing really well,” Cech said.
One that got away
We can’t help but think that Arsenal regret letting Martinez go.
The Gunners have had their fair share of goalkeeping issues in recent years with Bernd Leno, Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya all being number one at different points in time.
However, if Arsenal had just kept hold of Martinez, perhaps they wouldn’t have had such a goalkeeping reshuffle in recent years.
Of course, nobody saw this incredible rise from Martinez coming, but it has to be said that the Gunners did make a bit of a mistake here.
