Manchester United had a torrid time of it against Manchester City on Sunday.
The Red Devils were dominated in every sense of the word by their local rivals at the weekend, and the man who pulled all of the strings for City was Phil Foden.
The England international seemingly had the freedom of the Etihad at the weekend, and he actually had more touches of the ball in this game than he has in any other game in his career to date.
Speaking on Premier League Productions, Freddie Ljungberg has been discussing that specific stat, and he says that he’s not shocked at all to hear that Foden had so much of the ball against United, claiming that he knows that Marcus Rashford doesn’t like to track back and generally doesn’t have any interest in doing any of his defensive work.

Marcus Rashford doesn’t care about defending
Ljungberg shared his verdict on Rashford and how much Foden dominated the game.
“Not really, if I think about it, he’s playing against Rashford on that side, and we all know that Rashford doesn’t like to track back, he doesn’t really care about defending and helping, he’s just there for the counter,” Ljungberg said.
Needs to do more
We can understand why Rashford doesn’t do much defensive work. After all, he’s best-served further up the pitch where his pace and attacking ability can do a bit of damage.
However, in a game against the best team in the world where you’re protecting a 1-0 lead for large periods, you have to track back, or else you’re going to get dominated.
Rashford can get away with playing like this against most teams in the Premier League, but against City, you need all 11 players working their socks off at all times if you are to get a result.
