'Doesn't make my team': Ian Wright thinks Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta should drop 24-year-old
Arsenal legend Ian Wright says Gunners on-loan midfielder Dani Ceballos “doesn’t make” his team and would prefer Mohamed Elneny in the starting line-up instead.
The 24-year-old has been on loan at Arsenal from Real Madrid for the past two seasons, clocking up 76 appearances in red and white.
Ceballos has featured 39 times this season, but he’s lacked consistency, with great performances offset by some particularly poor displays.
He has been at fault for a number of goals in the Europa League this season and is unavailable for Thursday’s crunch semi-final second leg against Villarreal after being sent off last week.
And Wright believes Elneny is a better shout than Ceballos in front of the Arsenal back four.
“For me Ceballos doesn’t make my team,” he told the Wrighty’s House podcast. “I’d rather have Elneny in there.
“I know he scored the other day, but he has got a drive and determination about him that is quite – you cannot dislike his output and what he’s trying to do for the team.”
While Ceballos is more than capable of putting in impressive displays, he’s lacked consistency over the course of the season.
Fabrizio Romano claimed last week that the Spaniard will be returning to Real in the summer, where he’ll make a decision on his future.
If he were to leave at the end of the season, there are other options Arteta could look at, both in the transfer market and at Hale End.
